La simbiosis entre las plantas y las micorrizas, hongos que se asocian a las ra\u00edces, fortalece a las plantas permitiendo su crecimiento y supervivencia, lo que podr\u00eda ser una alternativa viable para aplicar en suelos agr\u00edcolas salinos y fortalecer el crecimiento de alfalfa en suelos degradados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De acuerdo con la bi\u00f3loga Malena Achiary de la Universidad de San Luis (UNSL), la investigaci\u00f3n se centr\u00f3 en el estudio de mediado sativa, una variedad de alfalfa sensible a la salinidad. \u201cEl objetivo es potenciar a la planta como producto alimenticio\u201d, explic\u00f3 la cient\u00edfica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dado que esta planta se puede cultivar en distintos suelos gracias a su gran capacidad de adaptaci\u00f3n, la investigadora simul\u00f3 condiciones ambientales de alta salinidad en una muestra de suelo obtenida de la localidad de Nogol\u00ed. El an\u00e1lisis incluy\u00f3, adem\u00e1s, el estudio del cadmio, su asociaci\u00f3n con micorrizas y su efecto en la planta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El hongo presente en las ra\u00edces de la alfalfa mitigaba efectivamente el estr\u00e9s salino. \u201cNotamos que la planta ten\u00eda mejor vigor y crec\u00eda m\u00e1s. Realizamos mediciones morfol\u00f3gicas y bioqu\u00edmicas, y pudimos comparar externa e internamente para evaluar el efecto\u201d, remarc\u00f3 la cient\u00edfica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sin embargo, los resultados sobre la relaci\u00f3n de micorrizas y su efecto en las plantas en presencia de cadmio, un contaminante ambiental t\u00f3xico, no fueron prometedores. Seg\u00fan Achiary, la presencia de cadmio en esta simbiosis entre la planta y el hongo perjudicar\u00eda a\u00fan m\u00e1s a la planta, ya que se presume que las micorrizas facilitar\u00edan la entrada de cadmio en la planta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNotamos que las micorrizas efectivamente ayudan a mitigar el estr\u00e9s salino, pero no fue lo mismo con el cadmio. De hecho, obtuvimos resultados inesperados donde la asociaci\u00f3n con las micorrizas parec\u00eda ser la v\u00eda por la cual el cadmio ingresaba a la planta, deterior\u00e1ndola a\u00fan m\u00e1s. Esto fue una sorpresa y ser\u00e1 el eje de nuevas investigaciones\u201d, destac\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Para determinar si las micorrizas estaban presentes en las plantas, la investigadora realiz\u00f3 punciones de ra\u00edces, lo cual requiri\u00f3 un trabajo de observaci\u00f3n minuciosa con lupas y microscopios. \u201cFue un gran trabajo. Si bien a nivel visual not\u00e1bamos que las plantas estaban m\u00e1s vigorosas, verdes y altas, no ten\u00edamos certeza de que estuviesen asociadas con el hongo. Esto tuvimos que verificarlo con t\u00e9cnicas espec\u00edficas en el \u00e1rea de ecolog\u00eda de la UNSL\u201d, concluy\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
